The City of Calgary now requires an Asbestos Abatement Information Form (AAIF) to be filled out before any building or demolition permit will be released. The process typically involves survey of the facility for hazardous materials by an expert, including laboratory testing for asbestos content. Depending on the findings of the survey, removal of hazardous materials by a licensed contractor and air testing may be required prior to demolition. Special procedures, personal protective equipment, and special handling and transport of the waste to an approved facility may be involved.
